The Hunter’s agriculture industry is worth $1 billion annually. In 2006 it employed 5,291 people, with 38% of regional employment in grain, sheep and beef cattle farming.

The Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest wine growing region. Today the Hunter Valley is home to some of Australia’s most distinctive and outstanding wines. The industry currently produces 31 million litres of wine annually valued at more than $230 million.
