New response vessel and equipment for Newcastle
Ports and Waterways Minister Paul McLeay has welcomed a new addition to the fleet of service vessels operating at the Port of Newcastle to help manage the port's increasing trade and diversity of operations.
Known as Response Vessel One, the nine metre emergency response vessel will be used to clean up oil spills and as a back up for Marine Pilot transfers and general duties such as wave rider buoy recovery off the port.
"With nearly 3,500 ship movements registered through the Port of Newcastle each year the increasing trade and shipping operations have been a burden on exisiting resources," Mr McLeay said.
