Fix Our City
A “Fix Our City” campaign calling on the State Government to immediately adopt and implement the findings of Hunter Development Corporation’s city centre renewal plan is underway in Newcastle.
The campaign urges businesses and residents to sign and send a postcard showing some of Newcastle’s most dilapidated buildings to NSW Premier Nathan Rees in a bid to gain state support for the plan.
Leading Hunter businesses and community organisations have joined the dynamic advertising and PR campaign, which is being rolled out across press and television. The aim is that 15,000 postcards will be delivered to Nathan Rees.
Developer Jeff McCloy said once the State Government endorsed the plan, the city could seek federal money to finance proposed projects.
"Millions of government dollars will leverage hundreds of millions, possibly billions, in private development," he said.
Organisations in support of the campaign are:
Hunter Business Chamber
Newcastle Trades Hall Council
Master Builders Association
Australian Hotels Association
Urban Development Institute of Australia
Hunter Advantage
Newcastle Alliance
Restaurant and Catering Association
The Property Council
Australian Institute of Architects
