A-grade sports and entertainment precinct

Plans are underway to create a centralised and enhanced sporting and entertainment precinct on the under-utilised state government land at Broadmeadow.

Minister for the Hunter Jodi McKay announced the plan when she met with stakeholders on Friday 2 July.

Ms McKay said better connectivity with the train station and the potential addition of a hotel to the precinct are all considerations.

Ms McKay said consultation with stakeholders and the community would take place up until December when the result of Australia’s bid for the 2022 World Cup would be known.

If Australia is successful in its bid, Newcastle is expected to host some World Cup matches.

A draft plan of management is due for release in early 2011.
