Port of Newcastle continues to set export records

The Port of Newcastle finished 2009 on a high note with yet another monthly coal export record being set.

A total of nearly 8.97 million tonnes of coal was exported in December.

The strong coal exports contributed to a record half-year trade result for the port.

The port registered a total of 51,997,708 tonnes of imports and exports for July – December 2009 which was 2.4 million tonnes more than the corresponding period in 2008.
